Gosforth Man In Court Over Abusing Dementia Patients

Makurah In Court Over Abusing Patients
Dennis Makurah of Links Green, Gosforth will stand trial for violently abusing vulnerable dementia sufferers in Palmer Community Hospital, Jarrow.

Makurah has been charged with three offences of wilfully neglecting a patient without capacity between September 19th and September 24th, a second patient during October and a third during November.

Prosecutors say he mistreated the patients in a violent manor.

Lee Poppet, prosecuting said, "Due to the seriousness of the allegations, this is a case that is only suitable to be heard at Newcastle Crown Court and I invite magistrates to commit the case to that court.”

A spokesman for the Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust said: “As soon as the situation came to light we immediately suspended the member of staff concerned and referred the matter to Northumbria Police."

Makurah has been bailed providing he lives at his home address and does not contact any witnesses.
